The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), has started a sensitisation tour to educate the public especially students, on the importance of cybersecurity.
Some of the schools visited include Krachi Senior High School (SHS), Nkwanta SHS, Kpando Technical Institute and Kpedze SHS.
Speaking at the programme, Director of the Child Online Protection Unit of the NCSC, Dr Nana Kofi Annan, said the fast penetration rate of social media usage in Ghana with its attendant challenges makes it critical for young people to be educated on how to stay safe when on the internet.
He added that it is necessary for young people to be mindful of what they use the internet for.
Ghana is ranked 9th in the world on social media usage, this Dr Kofi Annan noted calls for measures to ensure that young people use the internet productively.
He also urged the students to be reluctant in disclosing all information about themselves to strangers.
On his part, the leader of Critical National, Frederick Marfo said that there is the need for every institution to be educated on the laws that govern the digital space in the country.
Minister for Communications, Ursula Ekufful launched the 2019 edition of the Cyber Security month on the theme: 'Demonstrating Cyber Readiness'.
The follow-up regional tour of selected second cycle institutions across the country on Child Online Protection is to sensitise the public especially the youth on the need to be conscious of cybersecurity in order to safeguard their future.
