An impostor claiming to be a police officer on Wednesday night almost marred the Areeba 11 4'07 draw that saw 11 subscribers winning sleek Peaguet 407 saloon cars.
The impostor, who fell short of mentioning his name, claimed he got a call from someone who told him he was one of the winners so he came to Osu branch office of the Areeba, where the draw was going on.
He joined the party that was going on by attracting the attention of the crowd when he ran onto the stage where Wutah, a Ghanaian hip-life and Reggea music duo, were performing.
The man, whose claim of being a policeman was corroborated by some people from the crowd, danced his heart out for a short-lived joy.
Later, when he got the attention of the organisers he claimed he did not have his phone on him but someone told him he was a winner so he had come to move his car.
His shame was made clear when he quoted his phone number and it was not found in the list of winning numbers.
The draw was successful except for a slight hitch in the electronic system used for the draw at the initial stages. One draw was done for each year beginning from 1997 to 2007.
Two out of the 11 winners came to the premises of Areeba at Osu to collect their prices immediately.
They were Anthony Buagbe, a Business Officer at Alma Bank, who won the 2003 draw with phone number 0244585920 and Isaac Brown, a student of Takoradi Polytechnic who won the 2004 draw with phone number 0244430317.
The winning number was for 1997 was 0244411303 in the name of Paul Foster Balfos, 1998, 0244321175, John Huckle of Taysec Construction Ltd, 1999, Joyce Otoo with phone number 024461671, 2000 Phylis Tano, phone number 0244255739.
Other winners were Kweku Yeboah Baah of Dansoman with phone number 0244658588, 2001, Francis Nadugde, 0244213135, 2002. The numbers 0243519694 and 0246993439 won for 2005 and 2006 respectively whiles one new subscriber with phone number 0249165550 won for this year.
The 11 4'07 promotion started from November 26, 2006 and was for all Areeba pre-paid and post-paid customers.
