Members of the Adenta Municipal Assembly have at an emergency meeting held today, resolved that the Pan-African International Business District (Pan-IBD), expected to be cited at the Aviation land in Adenta, will not be beneficial for the people of Adenta.

Speaking to Joy News Thursday, the MP for Adenta, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore noted that the assembly has indicated that it would not be able to approve the construction of the supposed business centre, since documents of the scheme are full of discrepancies.

According to the MP, the consultant to the project was invited to the emergency meeting and after making a presentation on the project, the assembly noticed that due process was not followed.

The assembly was also of the view that it would like development to come to Adenta but not the type that is currently being presented. A decision was taken for a redraft of the document and presentation to the assembly again for scrutiny.

Members of the Municipal Assembly during the emergency meeting called by the presiding member (PM) Gladys Tetteh accused the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive, Kakra Vanlare of unlawfully authorizing last Monday’s demolition exercise on the Aviation lands, which led to the death of one person.

Encroachers rushed to retrieve their belongings, while excavators tore down wooden structures and smashed metal containers under police supervision.

It was unclear, who ordered the demolition but the assembly members said they have intercepted letters written by Kakra Vanlare authorizing the demolition.

The assembly members also say they did not approve the construction of a business center on the land.

Meanwhile, reacting to the allegation leveled against her, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Kakra Vanlare denied the accusation, noting that if she approved the demolition, she would have used facilities of the assembly.

According to her, the demolition was done on a national level and therefore, had no hands in the authorization of the exercise.

"I approved the business construction that was coming on the aviation land and not the demolishing", Kakra Vanlare emphasized.

The project is a 135 acre world class international business complex with a total construction area of 500,000m2, comprising a wholesale & retail shops, offices, apartments, warehouse (up to 80,000m2), parking lots (up to 5800), 5-star hotels, supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, clubs, recreational facilities and a huge wetland park.
The total investment capital is expected to exceed 10 Billion United States dollars.
