After painstakingly reading an article authored by Amb. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Haruna Attah, MOV, on the above subject, one is only left with the impression that political entrepreneurs still exist and will continue to exist so far as their bread is well buttered.
Some erroneous statements were contained in the referenced article which cannot be left unattended to, and I would humbly wish to tackle in this rejoinder.
He asserted that "under the auspices of the UN a picture has been painted as if Ghana was on the brink in December 2016 after the elections which needed the intervention of some supervising authority to avert calamity. This exposition has casus belli needlessly putting pressure on the peace, security and stability of Ghana since Election 2016".
The above statement clearly exposes Haruna Attah's poor understanding of the brilliant remarks made by the Asantehene, if only he listened to him or read his impressive statement which attracted a standing ovation from the delegates at the General Assembly. Let there be no doubt that :
1. Otumfuo never said that he is a supervising authority that always avert calamity in the country.
2. Haruna Attah should clearly understand that the Asantehene did not wish to explain or reveal any new idea that could jeopardize the peace, security and stability of the nation. Instead, he laid bare some of the things he and others have done behind the curtains to consolidate the peace, stability and security of the nation.
3. I doubt whether or not Haruna Attah wished to call the Asantehene a nation wrecker by this assertion or indirectly wanted to cast aspersions on the integrity of the Asantehene.
4. If Haruna Attah has forgotten, let me draw his attention to the statement released by our very own late Busumuru Kofi Annan after the December 2016 election in which he stated emphatically in paragraph three (3) ,and I quote: " in the spirit of democracy, I call on the losers to concede as quickly as possible to defuse tensions and allay uncertainties. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the five candidates who have already done so in light of the preliminary results and clear trends".
I do not think Haruna Attah would refer to Busumuru Kofi Annan as a nation wrecker who seeks to undermine the peace, stability and security of the nation.
Why then should he assert that the Asantehene's speech which I doubt he has read has become a casus belli needlessly putting pressure on the peace, security and stability of Ghana since election 2016? Does he abhor the truth or he is allergic to it?
From Busumuru's statement, does Haruna Attah need a rocket scientist to point out to him that the loser of the 2016 election was bent on holding onto power despite the numerous calls on him by highly- respected members of society to concede defeat when it was undoubtedly clear from the preliminary results and clear trends that he had lost big time, the biggest defeat in the annals of this country? What different thing did the Asantehene say?
Haruna Attah is at liberty to always register his continued friendship, loyalty and trust in the leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, but he should not allow this to cloud his judgement, reasoning, objectivity and conscience. He should note that not all can sell their conscience for peanuts!
Again, Haruna Attah asserted that, and I quote: "ironically, if there is one thing the speech whose main theme were ‘Culture of Peace’ and ‘Empowering and Transforming Humanity’ has achieved, it's been to thwart the cherished ideals embodied in them with the partisan and regrettably dangerous ethnic positions it has engendered ".
This assertion by Haruna Attah clearly exposes his inherent hatred and continuous appetite for ethnic blood bath. Where in the 13-page speech read by the Asantehene did he espouse either partisan or ethnic superiority?
Haruna Attah should clearly understand that the Asantehene, as an embodiment of what he represents, believes not in the Rights of a Nation but rather the Rights of its Citizens.
Just like Article 5 of NATO's code provides that if a NATO Ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and will take the actions it deems necessary to assist the Ally attacked, so does the Asantehene believe that whether in his Kingdom or not, an attack on any individual or group of people in this country is a direct attack on the peace, stability and security of this nation hence his readiness to help solve national issues when called upon.
I am very happy Haruna Attah is presenting to the people of Ghana things that he witnessed and was privy to. He should also allow others to present to the people of Ghana things that he did not witness and was not privy to.
Was the Asantehene exerting his supervising authority when H.E. John Dramani Mahama called on him to use his good offices, which he did, to talk to the then IMF boss, Christine Madeleine Odette Lagarde, to accept Ghana's bid for a facility?
Was he again showing his supervising authority when for 17 years, together with the other two Eminent Chiefs, searched for a lasting peace to Dagbon, after decades of chieftaincy crisis?
Please find out from H.E. John Dramani Mahama whether the Asantehene was exerting his supervising authority when his personal family issues were brought before him for amicable settlement.
As he has said and continues to say, the Asantehene is above your cheap and stomach politics. If for nothing at all, he has nothing to lose or has no limitation to a term in office, as Asantehene. NDC will go, NPP will come, and vice-versa, he will continue to be Asantehene. He remains the constant factor in this whole scheme
Should Ghanaians again reject H.E. John Dramani Mahama, it is because of people like Haruna Attah, who thinks and believes their loyalty to an individual should override the collective interest of the nation and its citizens.
Amb. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Haruna Attah, MOV, is a cancerous tumor which needs to be uprooted!
Will be back with more revelations that will whet the appetite of Ghanaians.
