The Kessben Foundation, in collaboration with, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Blood Bank, in a special blood donation exercise organized in Kumasi at the weekend, bagged 205 pints of blood towards the CAN 2008 soccer tournament.
Members of the Kessben Foundation and the public donated the blood after a screening exercise.
Mr Francis Sarkodie, Senior Bio-Medical Scientist of KATH Blood Bank, speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, said a similar exercise had been organized by the Bank with F.M stations including Luv, Fox, Angel, Hello, Solid, Mercury all in Kumasi for more blood.
He said realizing the importance of the Can 2008 tournament to be held in the country from January 20 next year, there was the need to mobilize the public to donate more blood for emergency cases during the tournament.
Mr Sarkodie said the target for the exercise was 400 pints and described it as very successful and appealed to the public to continue to donate blood to save lives.
Miss Evelyn Nsiah Asare, of the Kessben F.M Station who had been hosting health programmes said a similar exercise would be organized by the Foundation and KATH Blood Bank in March next year.
She expressed her gratitude to the donors for providing blood towards the competition.
Miss Asare later presented some incentive packages including soft drinks, blood tonic, Milo food drinks and tins of milk to the donors.
