A JoyNews report highlighting the plights of St. Joseph's Hospital in Nkwanta in the Oti Region has yielded positive results.
The report focused on how the hospital relied on an obsolete onion bulb system to ensure the survival of neonates.
The onion bulb system designed by a Pedestrian Assistant, Benedicta Yakusu, served the purposes of an incubator, phototherapy and radiant warmer.
However, following the report filed by Fred Quame Asare, the facility has received two incubators, a weighing scale and some medical consumables from the Ghanaian Catholic Church members at St. Michael and Martin Parish in Oslo, United Kingdom.
The items procured at about ¢60,000 are expected to augment healthcare delivery to neonates admitted at the facility.
Leader of the group, John Karikari, said the presentation forms part of an objective, ”to contribute to reducing neonatal deaths in the Nkwanta South Municipality,” which is mostly dominated by rural communities.
The Administrator of the Hospital Rev. Sister Georgina Quayson was grateful for the provision of the equipment which she said will go a long way to help the hospital.
She also praised the efforts by Joy News in assisting to seek solutions to challenges that plagued the facility.
“There is the need for a complete neonatal intensive care unit which we have already started constructing, but the project got stalled at the roofing level. We are hoping organizations and philanthropists will support us to complete and furnish it”, she appealed.
