The Tema Regional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) DSP Prosper Amoah Ayisi has commended motorists in the region for driving with care to prevent accident this Christmas.
Speaking to the GNA in Tema on Friday, DSP Ayisi urged the drivers to continue with the spirit during the New Year and the days ahead to enable passengers to reach their destinations safely.
The Commander equally commended the Road Safety Committee whose intensive education has gone down well with the drivers and called for its intensification next year.
He however, advised against excessive speeding, which according to him contributed to 50 percent of road accidents and also drivers should observe traffic regulations, lack of which is another factor to accidents.
DSP Ayisi further cautioned pedestrians to confine their merry making to their homes instead of enjoying on the streets by criss-crossing unnecessarily to obstruct smooth driving.
Last year's Christmas recorded few accident cases in the Municipality but there were no deaths.
