Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, flag bearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), called on philanthropists and the rich to assist the poor, particularly orphans to enable them to make live meaningful.
He said even though times were difficult, it was necessary for the well-to-do people to assist the needy, especially during festive occasions like Christmas to boost the morale of the disadvantaged.
Dr Nduom was speaking at a Christmas party he organised for 380 orphans from five orphanages in Cape Coast and Elmina, at Coconut Grove Hotel, Elmina, on Boxing Day.
The children, who were treated to highlife music and Christmas chorals, were presented with gifts, food and soft drinks and each orphanage was given a bag of rice.
Dr Nduom who is also the Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) constituency, said he organise the party for the orphans the to have a feel of life outside their orphanages.
He said, "Everyone is the child of God and everyone is capable of becoming successful in life if given the needed support and push."
Dr Aduom advised the children to respect their foster parents and take their education seriously to enable them to reach greater heights.
He urged the authorities of the various orphanages to ensure that the children were given the needed care and love and support so that they could become responsible adults.
