Officers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s Environmental Health Department on Wednesday, arrested two residents at Avenor in Accra, for acting in disregard for the environment.
Salamatu Adotey and a man identified only as Issaka, are to be arraigned before the Sanitation Court at a later date.
While Salamatu was arrested while heaping slashed weeds under the railway line at Avenor, Issaka was caught dumping waste along the banks of the Odaw River also around the same vicinity.
Some 23 who were also seen encouraging people to disobey the sanitation by-laws have notified for abetment.
They are to report to the Assembly for further interrogation.
These developments came during the first day of the #JoyCleanGhana campaign, which is a partnership between The Multimedia Group Limited and the AMA.
The #JoyCleanGhanaa is a weekly campaign towards promoting sound environmental practices in the capital as well as punish those who offend the environment.
The exercise was led by the Metro Environmental Officer, Joseph Astanga.
