The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chided government for the continued closure of the Upper West Regional Hospital 11 days after its commissioning.
The party has rejected government’s claim that it is now recruiting medical staff for the hospital.
According to the MP for Daffiama Bussie Issa Constituency, Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare, government should have completed its recruitment from a wide pool of trained and unemployed health personnel.
The opposition MP does not understand why the facility remains closed to the public almost two weeks after it has been commissioned.
“We cannot be that wicked to ourselves and the people of the Upper West Region, the MP said while addressing a press conference on the issue.
Mr Ngmenenso Sandaare said there are no good ambulances in the region as well.
However, Upper West Regional Director of Health, Dr Osei Kufuor Afreh stated that the commissioning that was done was for the contractor to hand over the facility to government.
He disclosed that recruitment is currently ongoing.
In a related development in the Ashanti Region, a hospital project initiated by the erstwhile NDC government at Kumawu has been taken over by weeds.
It is one of several abandoned facilities by government in the region and other parts of the country built with a $175 million loan.
The Kumawu Traditional Council has warned that continued government neglect of the project could lead to voter apathy in the NPP’s stronghold.
Meanwhile, former president Mahama has lambasted government for abandoning some e-blocks
