The Police has mounted a Visibility Post on the Pantang-Abokobi road in response to complaints by residents of the area of incessant armed robbery attacks.
The Greater Accra Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Wednesday November 13, 2013 inaugurated the Visibility Post assisted by other Senior Police Commanders.
According to the Police, criminals use the bushy and extremely dark streets, lanes and uncompleted buildings near the Abokobi rubbish dump site as hideouts and attack people on foot, snatch cars on the road and often set up roadblocks.
The Police say the criminals molest and rob residents of their properties in Pantang, Abokobi and Agbogba with impunity.
With the inauguration of the Visibility Post, the Police hopes to bring to an end the nefarious activities of criminals in the area.
Speaking at the ceremony, DCOP Yohonu said the Police Administration was bringing Policing closer to the residents of the affected communities.
He said the Police were ready to act to restore safety and normalcy to the area.
He explained that the post will not be for minor cases and land cases adding that such cases would to be handled by the Adenta Police Station.
The new post would deal only with violent crimes and armed robberies, he noted.
DCOP Yohonu announced that apart from vehicular patrols, the new Unit would also be given motorbikes for patrols in the lanes and dark alleys in the areas under construction which are the dens for the robbers.
An estate developer in the area, Ms. Bernice Ayikwei thanked the Police for their quick response to the pleas of the residents for a Police Post.
She was hopeful residents would assist the Police with logistics to make their work effective.
Already, the residents have provided a container post, furniture and electricity. They are also building places of convenience for the Police personnel.
The Emergency number by which the new Pantang East Police Post can be reached is 18555.
