A Magistrate at Somanya in the Eastern region has remanded into police custody six persons arrested for smuggling 4,000 bags of fertilizers meant for Cocoa farmers at Samenaboi in the Western region.
The pleas of the suspects were not taken and the court presided over by her worship Emelia Abrokwah remanded them to reappear on September, 2.
The suspects are Ahmed Mohammed, Illiasu Seidu, Michael Agyepong, Patrick Nartey, Yaw Antwi and John Dartey.
The seventh suspect, Kwaku Owusu absconded when police officers affected their arrest.
Prosecuting Inspector, Alex Nanfam of the Somanya police command told the court, four of the suspects were drivers of five impounded articulated trucks that carried the smuggled fertilizers.
He said Patrick Nartey and John Dartey are tenant and landlord respectively.
The suspects were charged for conspiracy to steal and stealing.
The court took the decision after prosecution prayed the court to remand the suspects to enable the police to conduct further investigations and arrest the last suspect.
The suspects were apprehended on Monday while offloading one of the articulated trucks with registration number GM 206-17 in a private residence.
Four of the suspects are drivers of the impounded articulated trucks carrying the consignments while the other is the receiver.
