Mr. Kwaku Baako Jnr., Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide has admitted that his newspaper, The Weekend Crusading Guide does not have the capacity to do surveys.
The Friday December 21, 2007 edition of the Weekend Crusading Guide in a report claimed it has conducted a survey on the 17 aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which found that only two of the potential presidential candidates could beat Prof. Atta-Mills of the National Democratic Congress in the 2008 election.
The paper went on to endorse Alan Kyeremanten as the one capable of beating Prof. Mills.
Speaking to Joy News’ Evans Mensah on the publication, Mr. Baako Jnr. said the newspaper has not conducted any such survey on the candidates, admitting that the newspaper has no capacity to conduct surveys.
On how the newspaper came up with the said survey report, he said he knows nothing about it, adding that the newspaper has an official stance that at no time should the newspaper openly endorse any political party candidate, even though staff of the newspaper could have their personal preferences.
According to Mr. Baako Jnr., the editor of the Weekend Crusading Guide, Mr. Sedi Bansah, acquired the poll results from the Daily Dispatch newspaper’s research department and decided to publish it as though the survey was conducted by the Weekend Crusading Guide.
On whether this would not affect his newspaper’s credibility, Mr. Baako Jnr. said, his newspaper is fallible and therefore could make mistakes. He however said that, his newspaper should be judged on its history and over all performance and not only on this mistake.
