The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso has expressed disquiet about the show of opulence in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race and wants the sources of funding investigated.
The clergyman, who is also the head of the Christian Council of Ghana, says the lavish spending of some of the aspirants flies in the face of many suffering and poor Ghanaians.
He told Joy News that those who desire public positions “would also have to show how they got their money and where they are getting their money from so that we can say that they are genuine people who acquired their money genuinely and that their aspirations indicate that they will think about the people. I think that people who want to aspire for positions are actually vetted properly, vetted by their parties, vetted by the community. It’s a big challenge, we haven’t got there yet but we must get there now.”
