Ghana has abandoned plans to camp in Addis Ababa before this month’s FIFA World Cup playoff return leg against Egypt, MTNFootball.com can understands.
An advanced team led by assistant coach Maxwell Konadu and Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member George Afriyie was not impressed by facilities in the East African country.
Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah had planned to camp in the Ethiopian capital from next Monday, November 11, to prepare for the Pharaohs.
Arrangements are being made to see if the team can train in Turkey before arriving in Cairo on 18 November.
“Black Stars will be based in Turkey ahead of the November 19 FIFA World Cup duel in Cairo. This is after an advanced party from the GFA visited the proposed venue in Ethiopia and reported back that it falls short of expectations,” Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, special aide to the Sports Minister posted on his Facebook page.
The Black Stars hold a 6-1 first leg advantage after an impressing showcase at the Baba Yara Stadium on October 15.
