Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh's appointment as head coach of Sierra Leone national team has been rejected by the government of that country.
Tetteh was appointed on Tuesday evening by Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA). According to the SLFA statement, the 62-year-old came out tops among shortlisted coaches who went through a thorough interview process by the association's head coach recruitment committee.
However, the government through the Sports Ministry has rejected the appointment claiming the selection process "did not come to a logical conclusion," and was "incomplete."
"The report of the Ministry's representatives also observed that representative from the Sierra Leone Football Association on the interview panel came with a premeditated mind of appointing the said coach," part of a statement released on Wednesday, August 14 read.
"Therefore the Ministry does not recognize Sellas Tetteh as the Head Coach of the Sierra Leone National Team A because the process was incomplete.
"The Ministry of Sports wants to assure all Sierra Leoneans that the government is committed to supporting sports in the country and the process of appointing the National Team A coach will soon come to a conclusion."
Tetteh, who won the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Ghana, was making a return to the West African country after serving as caretaker coach between 2015 and 2017.
He has also served as head coach of Rwanda national team.
