Afrobeats has become an interest of many artistes in the west. Drake, Beyonce, Chris Brown, J Balvin, Bad Bunny and many others, have collaborated with African acts to get into the Afrobeat vibe. Showing interest in the genre is Canadian Songstress, Deborah Cox. The ‘Sentimental’ hitmaker has revealed after listening to some African songs she would infuse the genre in her new album. Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Deborah Cox said, “I love the music here and I want the Afrobeat to stay with me and incorporate it into my other works moving forward.” Deborah Cox in Ghana Deborah Cox dancing to traditional music at the airport The singer, who was once a professional backing vocalist for Celine Dion, told Daniel Dadzie, host of the show, she would love to also collaborate with other artistes including Kojo Antwi with whom she came to the studio with. “Being here for this event is the starting point to give us the opportunity to reconnect. But when this happens again, we should have music we can perform together not on separate set but together,” she said. Grammy award-winning R&B artiste is in town for the Ghana World Music Festival; an event which is part of a long list of activities earmarked for the celebration of the Year of Return. The singer touched down on Thursday, August 1. Deborah Cox in Ghana This event, expected to take place on August 3rd and 4th at the Fantasy Dome in La, Accra, will treat patrons to a weekend of incredible global music from 7 pm each day. A rich myriad of genres will be on display from Jazz, R&B, Reggae, Highlife and Afrobeat. Ghanaian music maestro, Kojo Antwi, reggae and dancehall artiste, Samini; Jamaican reggae band, Third World; Jamaican Jazz and reggae artiste, Ernie Smith; Jazz artiste, Irvin Mayfield, Lamisi and a host of others are set to thrill patrons at the concert.
