Retiring nurses urged to serve their communities

The Matron of the Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ms Linda Ayittey has urged retiring nurses to use their rich experience to serve the communities where they would be staying on retirement. She said they could offer themselves as health volunteers to help in the implementation of the various programmes aimed at eradicating some diseases in the country and explained that by such activities they would continue to be of benefit to their family and community and that would enable them to enjoy the respect and support of their communities. Ms. Ayittey was speaking at a send off party for some nursing officers of the hospital who were retiring from the Ghana Health Service(GHS) after years of service this year at Koforidua. The Director of the Region Hospital, Koforidua, Dr Obeng Apori thanked the retiring nurses for their service to the hospital and the people of Koforidua and the Eastern Region in general. He said people who work pleasing God and not men were often rewarded by God in a special way that despite problems, God is always on the side of such people and guide them along . Dr Apori said despite their ages, the retiring nurses could often contribute effectively to society and urged them to be ready to offer advice to the young ones who are still in the service on how they could help improve upon their performance. He urged the young nurses of the hospital to emulate the retiring officers . Source: GNA
