The Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, will soon begin investigations into the activities of Zoomlion Company Limited, RLG Communications and other service providers under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
The Office has so far questioned twelve officials indicted in the GYEEDA investigative report and is holding some of them.
It formed part of recommendations by a ministerial committee which investigated allegations of corruption following a serialised report by Joy News over dubious contracts the State employment agency entered with some service providers.
President John Mahama in August 2013, asked EOCO, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department to implement recommendations contained in the GYEEDA report.
Executive Director of EOCO, Mortey Akpadzie has told Joy News that dockets for persons indicted in the report would soon be sent to the Attorney-General's Department for prosecution. He said the investigative team will leave no stone unturned.
"Any issue which is breach of law and which is of criminal nature we will deal with it...Everybody will be invited," Mr. Mortey Akpadzi stated.
Meanwhile, Miss Betty Mensah, one of the officials alleged to have taken a bribe of GH¢52,000 to facilitate a contract has made three appearances before EOCO. She is reported to have taken the money to facilitate the Youth in Film making module which is being managed by the Ghallywood Film Academy for GYEEDA.
Chris Ackumey, counsel for Miss Betty Mensah told Joy News his is expected to make another appearance before EOCO this week.
