Twifo-Praso assembly to improve revenue collection

The Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly has put in place measures to improve revenue mobilization to help reverse the low revenue collected there. The measures include erection of revenue checkpoints, quarterly revenue review meetings, revenue staff motivation, and supervision and monitoring of revenue collected. Mr Samuel Agyeibi-Kessie, the District Chief Executive, said this at a general meeting of the assembly held at Twifo-Praso on Wednesday. He expressed concern over the low financial performance of the assembly, whose expenditure continued to outweigh income. As at October, the assembly had collected GH¢120,037.79 out of a total of GH¢ 228,606.60 Ghana cedis expected to be generated internally, representing 52.5 per cent. Mr Agyeibi-Kessie attributed the low mobilization of internal funds to factors like apathy, low supervision and monitoring both in the office and on the field and inadequate means of transport for the revenue taskforce. On the allocation from the common fund, he said the assembly had so far received GH ¢542,505.79 out of an amount of GH¢1,009,400.00 earmarked to be allocated this year. On development projects, he said four of the community-based rural development projects located at Osenagya, Wamaso, Nkwankyemaso and Frami have been completed while the rest at Nuamakrom, Mampong, Ama-Kwamoano and Jukwa-Krobo are expected to be completed by the close of the year. He commended the Twifo-Praso area development programme of World Vision for providing education infrastructure, water and sanitation facilities and expressed gratitude to the management of TOPP for donating a printer and a digital camera to the district national health insurance scheme. Mr Emmanuel Agyeman, the Presiding Member, expressed concern about waste management practices in the district and called on members of the house to adopt pragmatic approach towards solving it.
