Dozens of people have been displaced following a fire outbreak that razed down their house at Juaso in the Asante Akim South District on Wednesday.
Property and cash were consumed by the fire despite the swift response by neighbours to put it out pending the arrival of Fire Service personnel.
It took a combined team of Fire Service personnel from Konongo and Ejisu close to three hours to bring the fire that had already engulfed the entire building under control that.
According to an eyewitness who gave her name as Ama who is an occupant of the house, she was outside preparing meal around 1230 hours when she saw smoke rising above the building and raised an alarm to attract neighbours.
There were no casualties and the over 20 occupants of the house are putting up with friends and relatives pending assistance from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Mr. Asamoah Douglas, Station Officer at the District Office of the Ghana National Fire Service, told the Ghana News Agency that his outfit would investigate the cause of the fire.
He blamed the extent of damage to the building to lack of fire hydrant in the area, saying fire fighters had to go back to Konongo on three occasions to fill their vehicle.
