Telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana has congratulated students of the Methodist Girls High School at Mamfe, Akwapim for winning the 2019 edition of the World Robofest competition held in Michigan, United States.
Team ACRO-BOT from the Mamfe High School came first beating opposition from the United States, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Brazil, Columbia, Egypt, England, India and Nigeria among others.
The students who visited MTN with their coaches and headmistress, presented two trophies attained at the competition to the Chief executive officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Selorm Adadevoh,
He said the world was going through a lot of technological advancement, hence, the need for individuals to apply technology to things of core value to their lives.
Mr Adadevoh was happy its support to the team had enabled them to emerge the ultimate winners.
He assured that MTN Ghana would continue to give support through its foundation in different areas especially education, which was one of its core values.
Mr. Adadevoh expressed his gratitude to NASA engineer, Dr. Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu and his Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF) as well as the American Embassy in Accra for their support in ensuring the success of the girls.
Also, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng said to the company, Robotics was a function of education that needed support and attention as other areas like health promotion and economic empowerment.
He said the Foundation saw robotics as another avenue for Ghana to participate in the industrial revolution, hence, the need to support the youth to gain skills in the area.
The Foundation, he said, would undertake measures to enhance the skills the girls had acquired in robotics.
