A friend and I had visited a KFC joint in Accra one fine Friday afternoon to have lunch. As we got seated, and wait to be attended to. There comes a lady nicely dressed in a McDonald's outfit walking gorgeously towards us to attend to us. We were left with so many thoughts in our minds. How could this be happening ? Are we at a KFC joint or a McDonald's shop?
We got out to verify for ourselves whether we were just at the right place. And yes, we were at a KFC joint. So who is this waitress in a McDonald's outfit ?
Few days ago, a video of a preacher pouring libation in church whiles service was ongoing went viral. A situation which has already sparked debate with diverse thoughts on the matter being expressed. So with a bleeding heart, I make this submission.
I wholly agree, we live in cosmopolitan world with diverse religious beliefs. With each belief distinct from the other.
Whiles no one can force his belief on the other, it is also prudent to note that one individual should be seen to misrepresent other persons belief. And the preacher in this video has just out of mischief sought to misrepresent the unadulterated message of our Lord Jesus Christ that is preached from the pulpit. And that cannot and must not be countenanced.
This attitude of the preacher quickly reminiscences Paul's encounter with some Jewish Apostles and some sessions of the Jewish Christian church, who preaches and opine that, for an individual to be a Christian, he must first be a Jew or be circumcised to become a Jew before been accepted and approved of as a Christian. To that Paul says, then the death of Christ will be of no meaning. In fact, the death of Christ will be meaningless if such rituals are to be followed. The death of Christ defeated all other forms of worship that hinged on rules and spirits other than Christ.
So to purport to worship God, but traditions are still traditions and must be acknowledged is not valid.
I am not ignorant about Nt)n, concerning its place of relevance in the Akan tradition. Where it teaches that - the spirit of the father is what covers its child, give protection for life and gives the child right to inherit his father's properties. These spirit as mentioned - Bosommurum, Bosomtwe and the host of others as mentioned and captured in the video are lesser gods from whom the power to protect and give wealth comes from. A position strongly held by traditional believers. So to pour libations in acknowledging this gods violates two spiritual rules as ordained by God ;
• Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2 : 9 - 11
• 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.James 1: 17
It should be noted that God remains the only being and source from whom all things are established. And there exist no other gods from whom blessings comes to man.
Again, since when did a preacher become the linguist to the fetish priest. Who echoes the message of unbelievers and traditionalist. Has the job functions of the preacher redefined? Certainly No. So Paul admonishes that if any man comes preaching to you any other message other than that which have been preached to you, curse be on that person.
In no clear terms should the believer be equally yoked with an unbeliever.
For a man in clerical to be doing the bidding of another with whom he has no relation and fellowship with is certainly a man on a mission of deception and mischief. The very trait and attributes of the snake in the garden of Eden . A wake up call on all 'wise virgins' who are preparing to meet the bride come what may.
