New equipment installed at the Regional Hospital, Koforidua by the Ibadesa construction works, a Spanish company that rehabilitated the hospital and handed over in 2004 has broken down.
The laundry machinery has broken down; the telediagnosis machine dysfunctional and sterilization equipment unusable with no spares to revive them.
The few functioning equipment could not be used by local technicians because the operating manuals were written in Spanish.
This came to light when the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Afram-Asiedu visited the hospital as part of his familiarization tour of Ministries and Departments at Koforidua on Tuesday.
Mr Afram-Asiedu commended the staff of the hospital for their efforts in running the hospital amid all the difficulties and assured that he would do all within his power to support their efforts.
The Acting Director of the Hospital, Dr James Appiah-Kusi appealed to the Minister to help the hospital to construct a block of 24 flats to help provide accommodation for doctors and other health staff of the hospital.
