A 21-year-old New Jersey woman who didn't know she was pregnant gave birth to a son on her front lawn Tuesday in Barnegat, according to NBC Philadelphia. Police then used CPR to revive the unconscious, three-months-premature newborn.
The father, David Windham, told the station both mother and child, who weighed 2.5 pounds, are doing OK.
The Asbury Park Press reported that the newborn's heart began beating in a normal rhythm on the way to the hospital, as police and EMT workers continued rescue efforts.
The outlook for the child appeared grim when police first arrived on the scene, according to the Barnegat-Manahawkin Patch. Officer Vincent Damiano said the mother was lying on the ground next to the infant, who was still attached to the umbilical cord and had no pulse.

"It all happened on the grass," Whitehead later told the Lacey Patch. "His head was out when I was on the grass."
Several rounds of CPR revived the newborn, with EMTs joining in. "We kind of moved [the mother] a little away from him so we could get in there. She was a wreck," EMT Michael Essig told Patch.
Whitehead, who has a nine-month-old boy, thought she had a stomach ailment. She told EMTs she had tested negative for pregnancy twice, according to Patch.
One surprised neighbor, Pat Faraldo, told NBC, "Can't say that I noticed that she was pregnant. She carries well."
