NPP takes steps to ensure transparent congress

The 19 flagbearer aspirants of the ruling New Patriotic Party and their representatives are to form a committee which will seek their interest and ensure their active involvement in preparations towards the December 22 congress. This is one of many agreements reached at the high profile meeting called Monday night to address thorny issues arising from the electioneering and preparations towards the campaign. The aspirants and their representatives are to work closely with the party’s election and congress planning teams. According to Lord Commey, National Organizer of the NPP, the desire to ensure a fair, transparent election process, credibility and to guarantee general acceptance of the outcome of the December 22 poll, informed the first in a series of meetings to terminate in the December congress. Asked if the meeting had anything to do with speculated bickering among the aspirants, Lord Commey said no such complaints had come to the notice of the party and that it was natural that misgivings and concerns are voiced out at such meetings to ensure that at the end of the day the results are acceptable by all and that the party remained united and grow from strength to strength. Other issues discussed at the meeting were to brief the aspirants of progress of preparation for congress: closure of vetting, timing of vetting results and a common platform in the Central Region to introduce all the aspirants.
