The District Chief Executive for Mfantseman, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, has advised the people of the area to improve on their way of doing things to justify the elevation of the district to the status of a municipality.
He stated that the elevation would be meaningless if it did not transform the lifestyle of the people.
Addressing a fund raising harvest of the Bishop Lartey AME Zion Church at Saltpond, the DCE reminded people that the "municipal status goes with responsibilities.
"As we jubilate we should bear in mind that it is a challenge to take measures to get out of poverty, squalor, disease and other negative things, which retard our progress", he said.
"The new status enjoined us to protect our environment from degradation and from filth, 'the DCE stated and said "form now onwards each and everyone must be the keeper of the environment, if you see someone littering, tell him or her to stop it".
Mr Quainoo-Arthur commended President John Agyekum Kufuor for the honour done the district and gave the assurance that the assembly would do everything possible to meet the challenges posed with the municipal status.
In a sermon, Mrs Abena Quainoo-Arthur, a lay preacher urged Christians to donate freely for the work of God, who was the giver of all good things.
Mrs Quainoo-Arthur said "the Bible urge us to give and it shall be given unto us since there is more blessing to give than to receive," and advised the congregation to appreciate the "wonderful things" God had done in their lives.
The harvest was organised to raise funds to complete the expansion work on the church building.
