Mr. Mark Woyongo, a former Upper East Regional Information Officer, has called on the media to be objective and accurate in their reportage.
He made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga, Upper East on Thursday.
Mr Woyongo who had recently been elected unopposed on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the parliamentary candidate for Navrongo Central Constituency stated that the credibility of any media practitioner depended on objectivity and accurate reporting.
He expressed concern about the way some journalists allow material gifts to influence them thereby compromising their credibility.
The Retired Regional Information Officer indicated that it was very
crucial for the media to exhibit a high sense of professionalism in the execution of their duties especially during the forthcoming general election.
He appealed to the media, especially those in the North to help bridge the gap between the North and the South by highlighting on developmental issues in the area and said until the recent flood that hit the regions it had never received many publications on the media landscape.
Mr Woyongo noted that he would help advocate by ensuring that the Northern Regions became the food basket of the country if given the nod as a parliamentary candidate in his constituency.
He said the North had more agriculture potential than Burkina Faso and wondered why that country exports a lot of green vegetables and fresh fruits whereas Ghana did not.
