The District Chief Executive of Wassa West District of the Western Region is proposing the setting up of isolation camps for persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Emmanuel Ayensu said he was worried about the spread of the disease in the country especially in his area.
According to him, isolating persons living with the disease was one sure way of checking its spread.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a Voluntary Counselling Centre set up by mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti to help address the increasing number of HIV cases in the area.
“The people have a right to live and therefore if anybody is tested positive, why must you kill him since he is a human being? But I think that majority of Ghanaians also have the right to live as well. Why must we allow you to go about freely to infest us with this dangerous disease? But if on the other hand we cannot kill them, then why not build isolation camps for them?”
