A tragic incident has unfolded in Gomoa Pomadze, within the Gomoa Central district of the Central Region, where a 29-year-old woman, Philomena Owusu, finds herself in critical condition following a horrifying attack by her husband.
Philomena's nine-month-old baby girl tragically lost her life after being bathed in acid alongside her mother by her 35-year-old father, Enoch Mensah, who is presently on the run.
Reports suggest that discord between the couple had been escalating both before and after the birth of their child, with financial issues, particularly concerning rent, being a significant point of contention.
According to Philomena's sister, Portia Owusu, tensions peaked when the couple faced eviction due to Enoch's failure to settle their rent arrears.
In a horrifying turn of events, Enoch returned to the residence shortly after the altercation, dousing Philomena and their infant daughter with acid, resulting in grievous injuries.
Philomena's desperate screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene only to find her and the baby girl severely burned by the corrosive substance.
Emergency responders swiftly transported them to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, but sadly, the infant could not be saved.
Currently, Philomena remains in critical condition and has been transferred to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care as the search for her assailant continues.
