In one week's time, the Black Stars will know their fate regarding their quest to be at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana will go head-to-head with Nigeria in the playoff for a spot to represent the African continent at the mundial alongside four others.
Headed by Otto Addo, the technical team for the Black Stars named a 27-man invited for the encounter on Tuesday, March 22.
The Black Stars team, included four goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, four wingers as well as four forwards.
Joy Sports' Kweku Lawrence takes a look at the statistics behind the performances of the four forwards invited by the technical team for the game against the Super Eagles.
Felix Afena-Gyan, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Jordan Ayew and Kwasi Wriedt are the four strikers who received call-ups for the double-header as the team began camping on Monday, March 21.
Felix Afena-Gyan
After making his debut back in October, the youngster has been around Jose Mourinho’s set-up and has been given some minutes under his belt. Afena-Gyan turned down a senior national team call-up back in November but the player is ready to play for Ghana after four months.
The 19-year-old has played a total of 17 games for AS Roma’s first team across all competitions, amassing 609 minutes in the process. During that time, Afena-Gyan has scored twice, with both games coming in the 2-0 win over Genoa in the Italian Serie A.
Christopher Antwi-Adjei
Antwi-Adjei returns to the Black Stars team for the first time since November 2019, during Ghana’s 1-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe.
The 28-year-old has featured 27 times for Bundesliga side, Bochum already in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring once and providing three assists across all competitions.
The forward’s only goal of the season so far came in his side’s 4-2 win over league leaders Bayern Munich back in February 2022. He has played a total of 1,269 minutes of club football this season.
Jordan Ayew
Jordan has been a regular inclusion in the Black Stars team for the last few years and has netted 18 times for the team in 73 appearances.
However, the 30-year-old has struggled to find the back of the net during his time with Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 season. Jordan has only scored once in as many as 27 appearances across all competitions. Just like Antwi Adjei, the Palace forward has also assisted on three occasions in 1,716 minutes of action.
Despite testing positive for coronavirus, Jordan is likely to recover in time to feature for Ghana against Nigeria.
Kwasi Okyere Wriedt
Kwasi Okyere Wriedt makes a return to the national team set-up for the first time since the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in March 2021. The forward played 20 minutes of that encounter as Ghana secured a 3-1 victory.
In club football action this season, the 27-year-old began the season with Willem II Tilburg in the Dutch Eredivise before joining Bundesliga 2 side Holstein Kiel in January this year.
Amongst the four forwards called up by the technical team, Wriedt has scored the most goals with five goals in 27 appearances in the 2021/22 season while also turning the provider on two occasions.
He has a total of 1,519 minutes of football action this season so far.
Otto Addo will be hoping the strikers called up for the clash will help the team ease past Nigeria in the two-leg encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium and the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
