The 8th Ghana Energy Awards has recognized 34 individuals and companies for their roles in driving growth and innovation within the sector.
The Chief Executive LMI holding, Kwadwo Aduhene and Nana Akua Agyei, Head of Legal at the Petroleum Commission were adjudged male and female energy personalities of the year.
For the 3rd consecutive time, Dr. Edwin Provencal, Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), was named CEO of the Year in the Petroleum category, while Ing. Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, the CEO of Bui Power Authority, took home the CEO of the Year award in the Power category.
Speaking on the theme, “The Role of Local Content in Building Ghana’s Energy Sector, the Chairman of the awarding panel, Kwame Jantuah emphasized the need to prioritize local players in the energy industry.
He cited the socio-economic benefit and its ability to drive inclusion.
“We must continue to support and enhance Ghana local content initiative ensuring that future energy projects will not only fuel our economy but also empower our people,” he said.
The 8th edition of the awards recognized five individuals in a non-competitive category for their outstanding contribution to drive growth and innovation in the sector.
Lawyer Ama Jantuah Banful was honoured with the lifetime achievement award, whereas the Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency was given the Exemplary leadership award.
For his remarkable feat in championing novelty in the energy and power sector in Africa, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization was duly recognized on the night for his efforts.
Others are Dr. Riverson Oppong, the CEO of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMC) and Wilhelmina Asamoah, the chief director at the Ministry of Energy. They were awarded with the Osagyefo Young Leadership Award and the Women in Energy Excellence Award respectively.
The ceremony, which was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel was graced by the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, and brought together the finest from Ghana’s energy sector in a vibrant ceremony that underscored the pivotal role of collaboration between local and foreign stakeholders in achieving Ghana’s energy goals.
Meanwhile, Dr. Yussif Sulemana, CEO of Eureka Energy Solutions was pronounced Energy Advocate of the year.
Also, JoyBusiness' Daryl Kwawu was adjudged Energy Reporter of the year under review. The award is in recognition of his reportage on energy sector issues and his efforts to assemble the relevant resource persons and industry stakeholders to give the public a better understanding of happenings in the energy space.
