The Bono East Regional Immigration command has arrested 80 persons suspected to be Togolese Nationals for allegedly entering the country illegally.
The operation according to the GIS, forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce the border closure directives by government to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
This brings to a total of 147 foreign nationals intercepted by the Regional command between February and March this year.
Bono East Regional Immigration commander Chief Supt. E.A. Annor disclosed to Joy News that Techiman is currently been used as a transit point for these foreigners who find their way into the country through unapproved routes.
The Service arrested and repatriated 67 illegal immigrants in the month of February. 42 of these were from Niger and 25 others from Togo.
Chief Supt. Annor indicated that "the Bono East Regional command wishes to assure the public that it remains vigilant and will endeavor to ensure that the president's directive is been adhered to strictly without fear or favor".
He also cautioned the public especially the Muslim communities "to be watchful of strangers who join them in their mosques to pray on daily basis".
Ghana closed its sea, land and air borders on March 22, 2020, as part of efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
