The Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi has presented over 600 pieces of dual desks to be distributed to 11 basic schools in the area.
Aremeyaw Somo Lucky said the desks are to reduce congestion and promote social distancing in classrooms when schools resume amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
"Our aim to make sure all children in school get furniture to sit comfortably to learn is on course," the MCE explained.
“I am presenting 600 furniture to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to complement what they already have in their various schools to make sure that our children get furniture to sit and learn,” Mr Somo Lucky said.
According to him, the donation was in fulfilment of government’s '$1 million per Constituency' promise.
“Already we have built about three six unit classroom blocks for Hairiya, Wungu and Buakudoo.
"We are also building a CHPS compound at Minima and Fungu-fio to complement the health sector initiatives under the same project," the MCE added.
Handing over the desks, the MCE also tasked the education authorities to ensure the furniture are put to good and effective use.
Speaking at a short ceremony in Walewale in the North East Region, he said government has fulfilled most of its promises contrary to the claim by the opposition NDC.
“People are asking where the projects are; this is one of them. It is very clear when the president promises, he delivers and this is one of the indications.
"Very soon, I will be distributing furniture to the various decentralised departments to complement what they already have in their offices. So, I want to urge the municipal director of education and his team to make good use of the furniture," Mr Somo Lucky said.
The West Mamprusi Municipal Director of GES, Mumuni Mbonwura Francis who received the desks on behalf of the schools highlighted the importance of the donation and thanked government.
