A 60-year-old farmer has been arrested by the Wamfie police in the Brong Ahafo Region for allegedly murdering his 45-year-old wife, Joyce Yeboah.
According to the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Matthew Yeboah, the suspect, Anane Da-Costa and the deceased wife have been married for 15 years with six children.
He said on the night of August 24, while Anane’s wife was asleep, the suspect picked a kitchen knife and stabbed her on the neck without any provocation.
The prosecutor said Anane realizing his wife was dead bolted to an unknown destination but surrendered the next day to one Kwame Alata in a nearby village who took him to the Wamfie police.
“To avoid reprisal and the possible lynching of the suspect the police transferred him to Dormaa Ahenkro where he was processed and put before the court”, Chief Inspector Yeboah added.
Meanwhile, Anane admitted committing the crime when he appeared before court on Thursday.
He told the court he felt possessed by some “uncontrollable spirits” to kill his wife.
Anane has been remanded to re-appear in court on September 10, 2009.
