In another edition of the end of season review, Joy Sports takes a showreel look at the highlights of the season. It's our Season Review Photo Story.
JANUARY 2015 - LEAGUE COMMENCES
After much back and forth in the board room, the 2014/2015 Premier League began. Five months late, but it started anyway. The first round of matches saw interesting results with defending champions Kotoko losing 1-0 in Dormaa to Aduana while Hearts beat new entrants WAFA 1-0 in Kpando as the Phobians were serving a home match ban.
-
JANUARY 2015 - FIAMENYO IN BLISTERING FORM
The first month of the league was all about the goal scoring exploits of Gilbert Fiamenyo. The former Heart of Lions man took the league by storm bagging five goals in the first four matches. He ended up with only eight goals in total. And that's why his equally sharp decline is yet to be fully comprehended.
-
FEBRUARY 2015 - HEARTS NICK FIRST SUPER CLASH
The first Super Clash of the season was, to be mild, badly timed. It was played on the eve of the African Cup of Nations final in which the Black Stars were billed to star. Subsequently, attendance really suffered. Hearts and Kotoko met at the Baba Yara Stadium. Both teams were in need of the points for early bragging rights but the Phobians had the better day as Selasie Adjei’s solitary goal was enough.
-
FEBRUARY 2015 - DIDI DRAMANI SACKED
After seven games, Kotoko had just 11 points from a possible 21. Kotoko fans wanted blood, and the coach's sacking was duly given them. After five trophies with the Reds, Mas-ud Didi Dramani was asked to proceed on indefinite leave. After a series of meetings, the two parties separated following a relationship spanning almost three years.
-
FEBRUARY 2015 - ASHGOLD ON THE RISE
The Obuasi side were rampant in the first two months of the league. At the end of February, they had won seven out of the nine games, scoring 14. Kotoko, Olympics and Chelsea had all fallen victim to Ashgold’s fine run.
-
MARCH 2015 - VETERANS RETURN
While Hearts and Kotoko kept faith with their youngsters despite a stuttering start, Olympics turned to veterans to aid them in the league Richard Kingson, Godwin Attram and Dan Quaye all signed for the Wonder Club.
-
MARCH, APRIL 2015 - THE CHELSEA TURNAROUND
Berekum Chelsea were asked to forfeit all matches they had played since February because of their inability to settle a debt they owed WAFA with respect to Solomon Asante. The judgment was passed in March but after an appeal, the Berekum side had all their points restored.
-
MARCH 2015 - DUNCAN APPOINTED
Former Hearts of Oak coach David Duncan was appointed coach of Asante Kotoko amidst much pomp and pageantry. The tough talking boss had expressed his desire to return Kotoko to the heights it once attained.
-
APRIL - JUNE 2015: FIRST ROUND ENDS, SECOND ROUND RESUMES
The first round of the league ended in April with Ashantigold leading the log while new entrants B.A United were rooted at the bottom. A two month-break was taken as teams recharged their batteries for the second round which began in June.
-
JULY 2015 - HERBERT ADDO SACKED
Hearts of Oak, after a series of bad results, also parted ways with their experienced manager Herbert Addo. The Phobians were 11th on the log at the time of his sack with a meagre 26 points out of a possible 60.
-
JULY 2015 - CHELSEA BREAK WINLESS AWAY RECORD
Berekum Chelsea had not won in 33 away games before their game away to Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium, a bleak streak stretching to March 3, 2013. A brace from Kofi Owusu and one from Awisome Fumador ended their away hoodoo in spectacular fashion.
-
AUGUST 2015 - KOTOKO WIN SECOND SUPER CLASH
The build up to the second part of the super clash was dominated by how both teams were fighting to avoid relegation. Hours before the game, Kotoko were attacked by robbers in their team hotel. But this did not stop them from appearing for the game in Accra. The match itself was also full of drama as Hearts missed a penalty. Youngster Dauda Mohammed’s brace won the day for Kotoko with Musah Inusah’s header proving to be a mere consolation.
-
AUGUST 2015 - BA UNITED RELEGATED
The most open secret in the league was confirmed with the Sunyani side being relegated. The team had an awful campaign with CEO Roy Arthur at one point in the campaign fleeing to Turkey with the team’s jersey. Not strong competition for the league.
-
SEPTEMBER 2015 - ASHGOLD WIN THE LEAGUE
After a blistering start to the season, the Obuasi side took their feet off the peddle and their one time unassailable lead was reduced to a single point but the stood tall amidst all the nerves to clinch a win against WAFA to secure them the league title with a game to spare.
-
SEPTEMBER 2015 - OLYMPICS, LIONS RELEGATED
The last day of the season was the defining moment of a competitive season as all eight teams in the bottom half of the log could be relegated. As the curtains drew on a roller-coaster campaign, Olympics and Heart of Lions were relegated.
