As many as sixty persons have expressed their interest in contesting the New Patriotic Party primaries in the 22 constituencies of the Volta Region.
Among the candidates who have expressed willingness to be vetted are 10 district chief executives and the Regional Minister, Kofi Dzamesi.
The candidates vetted include Mawutor Goh, DCE - Ho Municipal who goes unopposed for Ho West; John Amenya, the assistant NPP constituency secretary, will battle it out with Dr. S.K Buani for the Ho East ticket.
The South Dayi constituency will feature three contestants: the DCE Mrs. Woayram Boachie Danquah; Liberto Pinto Bani, a contractor; and Bernard Douse, a consultant.
The Volta Regional Minister, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi; Kudjoe Fianoo, a sports administrator; and Vincent Azumah, a media practitioner and human rights advocate will go unopposed to represent the party in the Ketu North, Keta and Central Tongu constituencies respectively.
Some others are John Peter Amenu - DCE for Hohoe, and Marton Anipa, a health worker contesting the Hohoe North primaries. Anthony Abledu, DCE, and his predecessor, Nicholas Coffie Negble, are for the Avenor constituency, whilst Edward Kofi Ahiabor, DCE Ketu; will also be challenged by one John Yaw Golomeke for the Anlo constituency.
The Akan constituency primary would feature DCE Kofi Adjei Ntim and Eric Osei Bonsu, a banker who has vowed to win the primary to contest next year's parliamentary election. To him, the seat has to be captured by the NPP a feat which, he claims, he has the capacity and resources to lead the party to chalk by wresting power from the fists of the National Democratic Congress’ sitting MP, Kojo Gyapong.
Moses Mensah Asem, DCE for North Tongu, is also being strongly challenged by another banker, Simpson Ezekiel Kuleke, for the North Tongu constituency.
Chief executive for the South Tongu District, Cate Aku Aglah, wants to contest the primary and is being stiffly challenged by Mawusi Nudekor Awitty, a gender advocate. Another DCE, Joseph Yaw Denteh, is also not going to have it easy at all as one of his departmental heads in the Nkwanta district, Robertson Beruard Mensah of NADMO, has also expressed his desire to represent the NPP in the next election.
The former Regional minister, Kwasi Owusu Yeboah, a lawyer, has again expressed interest to contest the Biakoye constituency and he is being challenged by Festus Abotsina, an educationist.
A media consultant, Stephen Anku, has embarked on a serious campaign trail, weathering a lot of political storms in the North Dayi constituency to make sure that enough is enough for the women, either from the DCE or the NPP for that seat.
To him, the time has come for him to represent his people in the constituency, so he has girded his loins to go through his notes and strategies to ensure that his communication skills give him the upper hand over his main contender, Esther Ofori, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana International Trade Fair.
