A fuel tanker carrying about 54,000 litres of petrol from Tema to Buipe caught fire at Kawanpe in the in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region.
According to a post shared on Facebook by the Ghana National Fire Service, the incident involved a tanker transporting the large consignment of petrol when the driver reportedly heard a loud noise from the vehicle's rear axle.

Shortly afterwards, the driver noticed smoke and flames coming from the tanker, raising the risk of a potentially serious fuel-related fire.
Firefighters from the Buipe Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and worked to prevent the flames from spreading.
The firefighting team used water and foam concentrate to attack the blaze and successfully brought the fire under control.

They subsequently extinguished the flames completely, preventing the incident from escalating into a major fuel disaster.
The large quantity of petrol being transported meant that the tanker fire presented a significant risk to the driver, firefighters and other road users in the area.
The successful intervention ensured that the fire was contained before causing reported casualties.

After the fire had been extinguished, the petrol that remained in the affected tanker was transferred to another tanker.
The replacement tanker then transported the recovered fuel safely to Buipe, allowing the consignment to continue towards its intended destination.

The transfer of the remaining petrol was carried out after the immediate fire threat had been brought under control.
No casualties have been reported following the tanker fire.
