Looking for your next date night but out of ideas? Sometimes, all you need to do is change up the same old routine. Make your next date night more interesting with these ideas.
1. Dinner date
Visit a restaurant with a cuisine you’ve never tried before, such as Ethiopian or Nepalese. This offers a great way to explore something new and experience creative and delicious dishes.
You can also surprise your date with an IOU card to their favorite place they can cash in at any point. Consider alternating giving these to each other so you both feel special. Meeting your partner’s needs and not just your own builds intimacy and deepens your emotional bond and connection. This also encourages reciprocity and makes them more interested in engaging in your interests.
2. Movie night
You don’t have to go out to the movies if you’d rather stay in. Pick a film or series you both liked growing up and dress up as your favorite characters. You could also rent a big screen for your backyard and float in the pool while you watch your movie under the stars. Before the pandemic, 27% of millennials would go to the movies monthly, mostly due to the unique experience it brings. But you can just as easily recreate this experience at home.
Conversely, consider making your own movie. Write the script together or create a parody of your favorite film. Having fun together eases the weight of daily responsibilities and strengthens your bond. Play and laughter allow you to be authentic and create genuine connections.
3. Picnic
Upgrade your picnic with romantic activities that draw from your creative side. For example, you could write love letters or poems to each other and read them out loud when you’re done.
Alternatively, have a picnic in your backyard and set up a sip-and-paint experience. Use whatever art supplies you have, such as colored pencils, markers, or crayons, instead of paint. Challenge each other to draw a landscape, a bowl of fruit, or each other’s portraits.
Additionally, go for something different than the traditional realistic likeness-centered art. Draw how you make each other feel, paint each other’s essences or make collages of images that remind you of each other.
To add to the fun, model for each other, especially if you prefer likeness-centered portraits. You’ll have many moments to connect and laugh while you pose and paint.
4. Homecooking
You can find many ways to level up your home cooking. Buy an old-fashioned cookbook and try a retro recipe. You can also open a book you enjoy, close your eyes, and pick something at random. You might surprise yourself by finding a new favorite.
Alternatively, play sommelier and set up a wine tasting in your house. Swirl your glasses and try to pick up flavor notes. Or, you could conceal the labels and test your ability to determine which wine is the most and least expensive. Just remember to avoid getting intoxicated by choosing brands with a lower alcohol content than average.
Upgrade your traditional date night with these fun ideas.
While traditional date ideas such as a dinner date or picnic can be romantic and enjoyable, why not add some twists? Get creative and step outside your comfort zone. Consider upgrading your plans and see where it takes you.
