Controversial entertainment pundit, Emmanuel Barnes, popularly known as, Mr Logic, has taken a swipe at the 3Music Awards board for nominating Wendy Shay’s album for its 2020 edition.
According to him, the RuffTown Records signee’s album, ‘Shay on You’ does not deserve to be nominated in the ‘Album of the Year’ category.
‘Album of the Year’, according to award organisers is based on “the most outstanding album on the basis of lyrical power and/or superior songwriting, productions and promoted with at least a video.
“This award does not only go to the act/duo/group whose voices are heard on the song but recognises the songwriters, producers, sound engineers and/or mixers on the album.”
Mr Logic explained that the album ‘Shay on You’ does not satisfy the category definition given by the award scheme’s board.
“How outstanding was that album? How outstanding was Shay on You? How well did it do on the market?... Let’s be real,” he told Andy Dosty, host of Daybreak HItz on Hitz FM.
Mr Logic also questioned if the board previewed the album to know how strong and powerful the lyrics are.
Organisers of 3Music Awards, since they release the nominations on January 30, has faced criticisms for some nominations.
The 'Album of the Year' is one category many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment in, after some albums, they deemed worthy to be in there were exempted while others were put in their place.

Wendy Shay’s debut album released in 2019, ‘Shay on You’ was the only female act who had her works nominated in that category.
Other works included ‘As promised’ by King Promise, ‘Sugar’ by KiDi, ‘Untamed’ by Samini, ‘Site 15’ by R2Bees, ‘Wind of Revival’ by Joe Mettle, ‘The 8th Element’ by Trigmatic and ‘Made in Ghana’ by Okyeame Kwame.
The ‘Uber Diver’ hitmaker is also leading the female acts with six nominations including ‘Fan Army of the Year’, ‘Female Act of the Year’, ‘Digital Act of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ award.
Mr Logic stated that 3Music board may have made the choice because of the scheme’s women empowerment agenda.
However, he said that inclusion or not “if this is the list of albums, then I don’t think Shay on You is supposed to be there.”
Mr Logic added that his comments are not out of disrespect, hate or malice for the artiste and or the scheme but genuine concern on the nominations made.
He also criticised the board’s credibility explaining that the absence of well-experienced musicians makes the board “unfit” to run the award scheme to the maximum level.
The songwriter said that without the inclusion of a well-experienced musician on the board, some of the categories will be questionable.
He added that experts in the field of music production should be involved to solidify the credibility of the board.
