The Abuakwa Catholic Church is to hold a thanksgiving service in remembrance of 34 parishioners of the Church who perished in a motor accident one-year ago.
A statement issued by the Church and signed by Reverend Father Callistus Emenyenu, Abuakwa parish priest, said there would be a local mass service in their memory on May 15.
The statement said another memorial service to be officiated by Most Rev Gabriel Justice Anokye, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi would be held at Abuakwa on May 26.
It said not even one-third of a target set under an endowment fund towards the upkeep of the children, who lost parents in the accident had been realized. It called for more contributions from philanthropists, men of goodwill, corporate bodies as well as sympathizers.
The statement expressed sincere gratitude to the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly for offering to erect a monument in memory of the dead.
The 34 parishioners met their untimely death at the Akropong Junction on the Kumasi-Sunyani road on May 15, last year when attending a wake-keeping for a late Catholic Priest at Akwaboa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district.
