The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service recorded 34 defilements cases in Accra last month, the highest this year.
In the latest incident, this was the 34th, a 42-year-old unemployed only known as Seth defiled a six year primary two pupil at Bubuashie, a suburb of Accra.
Irene Oppong, Public Relations Officer of the unit said that at about 6: 30 am on Wednesday August 22, the little girl and her mother, a drinking spot operator went to the bar.
While tidying up the place, her daughter went outside to play and did not return for a long while.
While she was wondering where she could be, Seth appeared with her, holding a biscuit.
Seth told the woman that he went out with her daughter to buy her some biscuits.
The woman became suspicious and after Seth had left she asked the girl where they went.
She told her that Seth took her out and defiled her, after which he gave her ¢1000 and warned her not to tell anyone.
Ms Oppong said the woman reported the matter to the Kaneshie Police who referred it to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.
From January to July her outfit had recorded 233 cases of defilement with July recording the highest of 34.
