28 persons are currently in the custody of the Accra regional police command in connection with disturbances at Nungua.
The 28 were arrested during clashes between supporters of a faction in a chieftaincy dispute and police officers at Nungua yesterday.
The incident occurred when the natives were getting ready for a durbar at their Traditional Authority compound to round off their Kplendzo festival.
According to eyewitnesses, the confusion started when police fired warning shots and tear gas as the chief of Nungua Nii Odai Ayiku the fourth approached the durbar grounds.
But the police say the supporters of Nii Ayiku rather attacked them first with stones.
The police say there were to enforce a court order restraining the organization of the durbar.
Accra regional police commander, DCOP Douglas Akrofi Asiedu in an interview of JOY NEWS said that the 28 suspects will be screened and processed for court tomorrow.
