The community based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) initiated by the government to reduce rural poverty is to spend 591,415.50 Ghana Cedis or ¢5,914,174,484 on 25 projects in the Mfantseman District this year.
The CBRDP Project Coordinator for the Central and Western Zones, Mr. Osman Yakubu, announced this at a sod-cutting for five feeder roads in the district at Abaadze Dominase.
He said the projects are seven feeder roads, five vault chamber toilets, one borehole, three Junior Secondary School (JSS) classroom blocks, two kindergarten blocks, three nurses’ quarters and four areas council offices.
The ceremony was for the commencement of spot improvement of the Dominase-Kyeakor road and the construction of the Akropong-Kwaakrom, Amissakrom-Nsanfo, Ohenekwaa-Kyeakor and the Oboadze-Pomase feeder roads.
The Coordinator appealed to the contractors, engineers and the District Assembly to ensure that the contracts were executed according to specifications and completed on schedule to ensure "value for money."
The District Chief Executive of Mfantseman, Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, said effort by the government to construct access roads was one of its initiatives to reduce poverty.
He said: "Its not only giving out loans for trading that reduces poverty but also includes shortening journeys through the provision of access roads to make movement easier and shorter.”
Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said apart from CBRDP, the European Union Micro project had also approved 12 projects for the district.
He said the Anomabo, Saltpond, and Mankessim town roads were being rehabilitated.
