The rescue team searching for illegal miners trapped in a pit in the mining concession of AngloGold Ashanti at Obuasi says it has rescued 23 of the victims.
The good news comes just hours after officials gave up hope of reaching the miners alive three days after they were trapped.
The illegal miners were trapped in a pit at the West Walley Shaft of the Obuasi mine last Sunday.
AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine General Manager in charge of Human Resources, Yiadom Boakye Amponsah told Joy News that two more people whose bodies were retrieved earlier were the only ones that could not survive.
