The MƐKƆ Bono festival and homecoming, an initiative of Bonofie in Techiman, Bono East Region, is a highly anticipated event that celebrates the cultural heritage and community spirit of the region.
The 2024 edition is slated to take place at Techiman, Methodist Park from 3rd August to 11th August 2024.
Dignitaries invited for this year's event include; Pimampim Yaw Kagbresse V, Omanhene of Yeji Traditional Area, and President of Bono East Regional House of Chiefs who’ll chair the event.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama will be among the dignitaries for the celebration.
Other dignitaries include Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief, Dormaa Traditional Area, Nana Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, NPP National Organizer, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC National Chairman, Hon. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, Bono East Regional minister, and Hon. Justina Owusu–Banahene, Bono Region regional minister.
Activities lined-up
The festival will kick off with the official launch on Saturday, 20th April 2024, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting series of events. The highlight of this phase will be the MƐKƆ Bono Float on Saturday, 22nd June 2024, where the community will come together to showcase their creativity and community spirit.
Throughout the festival, the MƐKƆ Bono Cup Qualifiers will take place on weekends from 22nd June 2024 to 21st July 2024. This event aims to foster community engagement and unity through friendly competition.
Additionally, visitors can participate in Tour Bono on Saturday, 27th July 2024, where guided tours to historical and cultural sites in the Bono and Bono East Region will provide insights into the region’s rich heritage.
The main event week will be filled with a variety of activities that showcase the best of Bono culture.
Highlights include the opening ceremony and seminar on Saturday, 3rd August 2024, which will set the tone for the festival with a mix of traditional and modern performances.
There will be MƐKƆ Bono Cup Super-8 on Sunday, 4th August 2024, where the top teams will compete for the championship title.
There would be a health screening/Trade Fair on Monday, 5th August 2024, offering free medical check-ups (sponsored by New Leaf Hospital) and promoting local businesses and artisans.
There will be a Cooking Competition/Food Bazaar on Tuesday, 6th August 2024, where visitors can taste traditional Bono foods and witness a cooking showdown.
There will be AKOM/Trade Fair/DJ’s Scratch & Supreme Dance Challenge on Wednesday, 7th August 2024, a night of spiritual performances and modern entertainment, followed by Trade Fair/Face of Bonofie on Thursday, 8th August 2024, a cultural beauty pageant celebrating Bono culture and talent.
On Friday, 9th August 2024, there will be Kwakye AdeƐfƐ Street Carnival/Trade Fair/Artiste Night, featuring a vibrant street parade and a concert with local and national artistes. This will be sponsored by Aduroye Herbal (Obuase Bitters).
There will be a Grand Durbar on Saturday, 10th August 2024, a grand gathering of chiefs, elders, and community members in traditional attire, showcasing the best of Bono culture.
The event will crowned with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 11th August 2024, a moment of reflection and gratitude to conclude the festival.
