Besiktas centre-back, Daniel Amartey, has been ruled out of Ghana’s final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic with a hamstring injury.
The 28-year-old has been a key fixture in the Black Stars team. His absence means there will be changes in the central defence.
“[Amartey] sustained a hamstring injury on Sunday, August 27, 2023 during training and is currently on the sidelines. Club Doctors predict he will be out for two weeks,” Dr Prince Pambo said, according to a GFA statement.
Chris Hughton announced the Black Stars squad for game on Sunday, with the former Leicester City defender not included.
Ghana will host the Central Africa Republic in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Chris Hughton’s team leads Group E with nine points, a point ahead of Angola and two above the Central Africa Republic. Madagascar is bottom of the group with two points.
The Black Stars need a point from the game to book qualification for the tournament to be held in Ivory Coast next January.
