The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in collaboration with headline sponsor of the Division One League, GN Bank, has officially launched the 2016/17 league season.
The event took place at the Banquet Hall of the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel in Accra on Friday afternoon.
It was well attended, with representatives of the major stakeholders of the league including the Ghana Football Association, Division League Board Sponsors GN Bank and the teams present.
GN Bank presented a cheque of 793,500 Ghana cedis to the Division League Board as third and final tranche payment of the 2.1 million cedis sponsorship deal.
The Division One League received its biggest boost since its inception when the Ghana Football Association in 2015 signed a deal worth 2.1million Ghana cedis with GN Bank to sponsor the league over three seasons.
Speaking at the launch, General Manager in charge of Operations of GN Bank, Mr. Allen Quaye, expressed satisfaction at the turn of events last season, pledged the bank’s commitment in supporting the Division One League again this season.
In a short remark at the launch, Chairman for the Division One League Board, Mr. Owuahene Acheampong, assured the public that all challenges experienced last season have been looked at to help avoid any repetition this season.
Adding that his outfit are hopeful of contract extension with GN Bank after the expiration of the current deal at the end of the season.
“We trust that you will exercise the option of renewal so that we will still have GN Bank as our sponsors because we have been very happy with our relationship with your brand “.
For the coverage, Mr. Owuahene emphasised that First Digital TV, a fully owned Ghanaian television station, who did televise the matches last season will do same alongside rights holders StarTimes.
The start of the league which was postponed due to administrative issues will see three relegated premier division clubs at the end of the 2014/15 Ghana Premier League season being joined by 45 others to compete for slots to join the Premier League when the matches kick-off in February.
