The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has indicated that schools in the country continue to record a limited number of Covid-19 positive cases.
According to Director-General of the Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye who spoke at a press briefing Tuesday, a total of 20 cases have been recorded in schools in the Greater Accra region.
"Greater Accra, has cumulatively reported about 20 cases in a couple of schools,” he said.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye also disclosed that some Secondary Schools in the Upper West as well as the Western Region, have also recorded some cases.
"Three cases, limited outbreaks have been recorded in two secondary schools from the Upper West. 34 contacts screened in the Upper West SHS school yielded one additional positive case. Thus, a school has 3 active cases and the second has 1," he said.
In the Western Region, he revealed that one case has been recorded in a school in Daboase.
However, he indicated that "Contact tracing and isolation are currently ongoing".
At the press briefing today Dr Aboagye also stated that the country’s active cases have surged to 5,515.
Giving a regional breakdown, he stated that Greater Accra leads the chart "with the majority of the cases nearly 60% recorded in the region."
He added that the Ashanti Region follows with 16% of total cases and 6.1% of cases were recorded in the Western Region recording.
Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye reiterated, “All 16 regions still continue to have active cases.”
He said so far Greater Accra has become a hotspot with a lot of people failing to wear their face mask and some not following the safety protocols.
