Two teenage girls have been killed at Okrakwadwo in the Okere district of the Eastern Region.
The bodies of the girls were found along the Koforidua-Adukrom road on Tuesday dawn with severe head injuries.
According to reports, Yvonne and Esther, both junior high school students, allegedly left their homes to visit their boyfriends.
According to residents, they were killed by their assailants at dawn before depositing them at the roadside.
An Okada rider, Akrasi Eric, who arrived on the scene shortly after their bodies were found said they heard noise from a bus that day.
“We heard a loud noise from a Sprinter bus at dawn. The driver rushed to tell us that, he saw two female teenagers lying lifeless. Their heads were crushed, but their bodies were intact.
"I doubt if it was a car that knocked them down but no one knows what happened," he said.
The Assembly Member for the area, Michael Gadasu, who confirmed the incident to Accra-based Starr News said he does not think the girls forced their way out of a car, therefore, suspects foul play.
“There were no marks of injuries on their bodies to suggest that they jumped out of a moving vehicle. Besides that, they were arranged beside each other so we suspect they were killed and dumped,“ he said.
The uncle of one of the deceased teenage girls, Samuel Obiri, also said he does not believe the girls were hit by a car.
“We do not know what happened, we just heard about it and rushed to the hospital. They died upon reaching the hospital. We have reported to the police, but won’t believe any story that they were hit by a vehicle.”
The families of both girls awaiting autopsy reports also say they suspect foul play, attributing their claims to text messages seen on the phone of one of the victims retrieved at the scene.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two teenagers have been retrieved by the Adukrom District Police command and deposited at the morgue as investigations continue.
